Leeds United defender Pascal Struijk has suffered an injury in training, Phil Hay has reported.

The Lowdown: Leeds’ injuries

The Whites find themselves in the midst of an injury crisis after three players suffered knocks against Brentford earlier this month.

Leeds provided an official injury update ahead of the weekend's clash against Chelsea, with Kalvin Phillips, Patrick Bamford, Liam Cooper, Rodrigo and Robin Koch all missing the trip to London.

Marcelo Bielsa’s injury-hit squad fell to an agonising 3-2 defeat against Thomas Tuchel’s men following a spirited performance, with youngster Joe Gelhardt scoring his first Premier League goal for the Whites.

The Latest: Hay’s tweet

Reliable reporter Hay took to Twitter following Leeds’ narrow defeat at Stamford Bridge.

He learned from Bielsa that towering Whites defender Struijk, labelled an ‘important’ player by Noel Whelan, was set to start at Stamford Bridge but suffered a foot injury at Thorp Arch on Friday, tweeting on the day of the match: “Struijk was going to play today but injured his foot in training yesterday.”

The Verdict: Not good…

It seems as if Leeds’ injury issues never end, and Struijk’s training ground knock is the latest. The 22-year-old is one of three centre-backs currently sidelined and he may end up missing the trip to Manchester City on Tuesday night.

Leeds’ only fit senior centre-back Diego Llorente is also one booking away from a suspension, so Bielsa may need to rely on youngster Charlie Cresswell sooner rather than later should Struijk’s foot injury prove complex.

The Whites expect Koch to return to training today, but it would be a surprise if he were thrown straight back into the team following a lengthy absence.
