Leeds: Pascal Struijk would welcome new deal

Leeds: Pascal Struijk would welcome new deal -Leeds United News

Leeds United defender Pascal Struijk has admitted that he would welcome a new deal at Elland Road.

The Lowdown: Deal expires in 2024

Hailed as ‘amazing’ by Kevin Phillips, the Dutchman has been a regular under Jesse Marsch this season, starting every Premier League game at left-back following Junior Firpo’s injury issues.

The 23-year-old is one of nine Whites players who are set to be out of contract in 2024, with the manager coy when asked about fresh terms for players who will soon be entering the final 18 months of their respective deals.

He appears to be going from strength to strength in Yorkshire and is currently valued at a career-high £16.2m by Transfermarkt.

The Latest: Struijk’s comments

Speaking to Voetbalzone ahead of the Arsenal clash this afternoon, as relayed by MOT Leeds News, Struijk said that it would be ‘nice’ if the Whites were to offer him a new contract, sharing his love for the city.

The 23-year-old stated: “At least for now I’m really enjoying myself at Leeds and it would be nice if they were willing to extend my contract. I feel good here and I focus on Leeds.

“Leeds itself is a nice city. If you’ve just come here, it’s different if you’re used to Rotterdam or Amsterdam, because it’s an industrial city, but the longer you stay there, the more you love the city and people.”

The Verdict: Get it done

Struijk has shown that he is an important and versatile member of the Leeds squad and is the club’s top performer in the Premier League, as per WhoScored.

Therefore, it makes sense to offer the defender new, improved terms ahead of the New Year, with Leeds expected to do the same with Jack Harrison.

Leeds supporters, try our celebrity fan quiz! First up, Sir Nick Faldo the Whites fan?

He has added another string to his bow by being able to play at left-back as well as at centre-back, and you’d like to think that Struijk has room for further improvement over the coming years, hopefully with Leeds.
