Jesse Marsch will ditch Leeds United's previous man-marking system and play a 'less rigid' system than Marcelo Bielsa, according to journalist Phil Hay.

The Lowdown: Marsch's Leeds bow awaits

A new era gets underway at Elland Road this weekend, as Marsch takes charge of his first game since replacing Bielsa as manager earlier this week.

Leeds visit Leicester City on Saturday lunchtime in another huge game in their Premier League relegation battle, as they look to overcome a dreadful run of recent form.

The hope is that Marsch implements his new methods immediately and a new-look Whites outfit is to be expected at the King Power Stadium.

The Latest: Hay makes key tactical claim

Writing in a Q&A for The Athletic on Thursday, Hay claimed the American would ditch some of Bielsa's much-discussed tactics from the off:

"It's abundantly apparent that he'll be moving on from strict man-to-man marking and it's also obvious that he'll be less rigid in terms of formations. The set-up of the teams seems likely to vary much more game to game than it did under Bielsa."

The Verdict: A much-needed change

While Bielsa's exit was extremely sad, there was a feeling that the Argentine had possibly taken Leeds as far as he could, with the players certainly looking a little flat.

The hope is that Marsch's ideas breathe new life into the Whites from the off and ditching the man-marking system could make them more secure defensively to begin with, having conceded 20 goals in their last five league outings.

Equally, seeing a little fluidity in terms of changing tactics throughout a game could be refreshing, too, with Bielsa a stubborn character who always believed in his own methods no matter the opposition or situation of the game.

Leeds may not be as entertaining and gung-ho as they were under Bielsa but Marsch could make them a more disciplined outfit who control matches rather than revel in chaos.
