It is 'not clear' if Leeds United youngster Crysencio Summerville will feature again for the Whites' first team this season, according to reliable journalist Phil Hay.

The Lowdown: Summerville stays put

The 20-year-old was linked with a loan move away from Elland Road in the January transfer window, in order to earn more regular football elsewhere.

Instead, Summerville ended up remaining at Leeds beyond the deadline as a proposed move to Hamburg collapsed because Victor Orta was not able to bring in a replacement, per reports in Germany.

Of course, this means he will have his work cut out getting minutes for Marcelo Bielsa's side, as the manager's desire was seemingly to bring in a more experienced upgrade, like the versatile Brenden Aaronson.

A new update has now emerged and it is a worrying one from the youngster's perspective.

The Latest: Hay makes intriguing claim

Writing for The Athletic on Tuesday, Hay claimed that Summerville may not feature at all for the first team between now and May, having played for the Under-23s on Monday:

"The 20-year-old has continued to train at Thorp Arch since the deadline passed eight days ago and he played and scored for the development side against Liverpool yesterday evening.

"He is not expected to feature in the senior squad at Aston Villa tomorrow night, however, and it is not clear how much involvement he will have in the rest of Leeds’ top-flight campaign."

The Verdict: Big blow for youngster

This is a potentially massive blow for Summerville, who would have benefited from a spell away from Leeds, especially if he knew what the current situation would be.

In pre-season, the player was making waves, being hailed as a 'runaway train' by journalist Beren Cross, but things haven't gone to plan once the campaign kicked off, with just 119 top flight minutes to his name.

It now appears as though the winger will have to make do with playing for the youth team in the coming months, which might not aid his development at this point - he is at the stage of his career where he needs senior games, either at Leeds or elsewhere.

Once the summer window arrives, Summerville may feel it is the right time to either push through a loan move or even seal a permanent exit from the Whites if he is clearly not in the manager's plans.
