Leeds United have been a delight to watch since returning to the Premier League and Marcelo Bielsa has shown his quality as he has led them to a mid-table position so far. However, Phil Hay believes they need to strengthen in one position.
Phil Hay discusses competition in midfield
The journalist for The Athletic was asked by a fan during a Q&A before Friday’s game against Wolves and discussed who the club could sign in the summer. He said: “I’d like to see competition for Klich too. There’s so much responsibility placed on him in this team.”
Some healthy competition would be good for Klich
The Polish midfielder has definitely been a vital asset for Leeds this season. When you break down his stats, you can see that he has been contributing at both ends of the pitch. He has picked up three goals and five assists (WhoScored), managing 1.6 key passes and 1.1 shots a game. Meanwhile defensively, he has managed an impressive 1.1 tackles per game.
The fact that he helps the club out at both ends of the pitch supports Hay’s claim that there is a lot of responsibility placed on him and with Marcelo Bielsa’s high intense coaching style that shows itself during matches, it is somewhat impossible for Klich to perform perfectly throughout the course of a season.
Therefore if Leeds could find a player similar to the Polish international who can come in when Klich is not at his best or is tired during matches, then they would be in a much better position.
