Leeds: Azzedine Ounahi would be an ‘exciting’ coup

Leeds: Azzedine Ounahi would be an 'exciting' coup - Follow up

Leeds United would be signing an ‘exciting’ player if they manage to bring Azzedine Ounahi to the club, according to journalist Ryan Taylor.

The Lowdown: Leeds ‘in talks’ with Ounahi

It was recently claimed that the Whites are ‘in talks’ with the 22-year-old over a move to Elland Road, in what made for an encouraging transfer update.

Ounahi came to more widespread prominence during the 2022 World Cup, where his performances for Morocco helped them reach the semi-finals against all odds and led to him featuring in some journalists’ team of the tournament in Qatar.

The midfielder has also been a valuable player for Angers this season, starting 13 matches in Ligue 1 and enjoying an 88.2% pass completion rate.

The Latest: Ounahi would be ‘exciting’ for Leeds

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Taylor heaped praise on Ounahi as a player, saying that he could be a great signing for Leeds if they are able to bring him in.

The Daily Express journalist said:

“It seems they are willing to throw their name into the mix and try to get the player.

“I think he would be a very exciting and suitable signing, but, to me, Leeds are a team that could be in big trouble this year, so would you necessarily go to Leeds at the moment knowing that you could potentially be relegated?

“It’s a difficult situation but one that’s worth keeping an eye on for sure.”

The Verdict: He’d be an ideal signing

Ounahi could be a fantastic addition to Leeds’ midfield, at a time when the likes of Adam Forshaw and Stuart Dallas are perhaps no longer the forces they once were. Long-term injuries have dogged the pair, who are also both into their 30s and therefore likely to have passed their peak footballing years.

The Morocco star was superb at the World Cup, providing constant energy both in and out of possession in the middle of the park as he averaged 1.4 dribbles and 1.3 tackles per game.

He could complement Tyler Adams nicely at Elland Road and come in as a long-term acquisition, having been described as ‘fast & dynamic‘ by football talent scout Jacek Kulig, so he would certainly seem an ‘exciting’ coup if Victor Orta can land him this year.
