Leeds United are planning to appeal having to pay for Jean-Kevin Augustin's transfer to RB Leipzig, according to reliable journalist Phil Hay.

The Lowdown: Leeds suffer Augustin blow

On Friday, it was confirmed that the Whites would have to pay Leipzig £18.4million regarding the signing of Augustin, with their appeal dismissed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

The striker joined Leeds on loan back in 2020 with an obligation to buy but he only made three appearances, and they have been ordered to pay an initial sum of £5.9million.

The saga doesn't look set to end any time soon, however, following a fresh update.

The Latest: Appeal on the cards

Taking to Twitter, Hay confirmed that Leeds are planning to appeal this latest update, as they look to avoid having to splash out a sizeable amount of money:

"Leeds United have lost their appeal to CAS over the Jean-Kevin Augustin transfer. CAS rules that original transfer fee must be paid to Leipzig, beginning with an installment of 6.7m Euros. Leeds plan to submit another appeal."

The Verdict: Big financial hit

Should the appeal be rejected yet again, there is no doubt that this would be a significant financial blow for Leeds, potentially affecting transfer funds in the future.

For the club to have to pay such a big amount for a player who has long since left could hamper Jesse Marsch's plans, especially with the threat of relegation from the Premier League in the air.

The hope is that CAS eventually favour Leeds' appeal, which would act as a massive relief to the club at a time when every penny is priceless to them - but it looks as if the club are just delaying the inevitable.
