Leeds United will likely make a couple of new signings to bolster their squad during the January transfer window, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Lowdown: Leeds struggling for consistency

The Whites have experienced an up-and-down start to the Premier League season, sitting 14th in the table and only winning two of their eight matches to date, although one of those victories was an emphatic thrashing of Chelsea.

Jesse Marsch enjoyed a largely positive summer window, admittedly losing Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha but replacing them with the likes of Tyler Adams, Brenden Aaronson and Luis Sinisterra.

Leeds' squad could still do with further reinforcements, however, as experienced players like Patrick Bamford and Liam Cooper have once again suffered with injuries, and that opportunity will arise in January.

The Latest: New signings in January?

Speaking to Give Me Sport, Jones claimed that he could see a couple of new faces arriving at Elland Road midway through the campaign:

"There are still steps to be made in this squad build. I know that Jesse Marsch is looking to make a couple of signings in that January window, and I think that those signings will help with this need to remain competitive."

The Verdict: Left-back and striker?

The winter World Cup makes this season a strange one, with those present at the tournament potentially returning slightly jaded figures in late December.

For that reason, freshening up Leeds' options in January makes perfect sense, ensuring the same mistakes of last season don't happen and they don't get themselves dragged into a relegation battle after a string of fatigue and injuries.

Left-back certainly feels like an area of the pitch that needs strengthening, with Junior Firpo often injured of late and Pascal Struijk not a natural there, while another central striker also wouldn't go amiss, with Joe Gelhardt on the fringes and Bamford still not firing at 100 per cent.
