Leeds United could revisit their interest in Philadelphia Union star Kai Wagner in the January transfer window, journalist Graham Smyth reports.

The Lowdown: Leeds linked with Wagner move

The Whites enjoyed a good summer transfer window, bringing in a host of key names that helped make up for the loss of Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha.

One player who was linked with a move to Elland Road was Wagner, who has caught the eye with his performances for Philadelphia Union in the MLS, registering 18 assists from left-back.

A new update suggests that Leeds' interest in the 25-year-old is far from done, perhaps little surprise given the lack of depth at left-back in Jesse Marsch's squad.

The Latest: Smyth drops fresh claim

Writing in a Q&A for The Yorkshire Evening Post on Tuesday, Smyth said that Leeds could well go back in for Wagner in January:

"There has been enough Stateside noise to suggest there is real interest from Leeds. One to watch but as I’ve said elsewhere, we don’t yet know if Leeds will approach the January window differently now that there’s a new manager in place."

The Verdict: Exciting mid-season addition

It seems clear that Wagner himself is keen on a move to Leeds, no doubt helped by Marsch being there, who is allegedly driving the move with his MLS past and knowledge of the player.

The German could be an excellent signing by the Whites midway through the season, providing healthy competition to Junior Firpo and ensuring the squad remains fresh.

At 25, Wagner has plenty of years ahead of him to improve, too, so he ticks plenty of boxes when it comes to being a strong long-term addition by Victor Orta and co. It is certainly easy to envisage the transfer happening.
