New Leeds United signing Weston McKennie is 'in contention' to start his side's Premier League clash with Nottingham Forest this weekend.

The Lowdown: Leeds head to Forest

The Whites face a massive game on Sunday afternoon, as Jesse Marsch's 15th-placed side head to the City Ground to take on a Forest team sitting in 13th.

Victory would be massive for Leeds, as they look to avoid getting into a second straight relegation battle, but defeat would further raise fears that that is going to happen.

McKennie arrived at Elland Road last month and it looks as though supporters could see him up close straight away.

The Latest: McKennie could start

Taking to Twitter, Hay relayed that the American could start proceedings against Forest on Sunday:

"He's in contention to start."

The Verdict: Get him straight in

This is a hugely exciting proposition for Leeds fans, with McKennie an ambitious signing by the club, having racked up 96 appearances for Juventus and been described as 'dangerous' by Clint Dempsey.

Handing him a start against Forest makes complete sense, with the 24-year-old having enough time to settle into his new surroundings and no doubt raring to impress.

McKennie could slot into the midfield alongside Tyler Adams, just as they did together for the USA at the 2022 World Cup, immediately forging a similarly strong partnership for the Whites.

Should Marsch decide to start the 41-cap international on the bench it would be understandable - it could be seen as a more sensible way to ease him in - but playing him from the off would be a show of intent.
