Leeds United are now in talks for PSV winger Cody Gakpo, according to Dutch journalist Rik Elfrink.

The Lowdown: Raphinha to Chelsea

The Whites look set to lose another star player in Raphinha, who could follow Kalvin Phillips out of the Elland Road exit door.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Leeds have now agreed on a total fee with Chelsea worth around £60m-£65m. Leeds have also shaken hands on an initial £42m deal with Manchester City for Phillips, and it looks as if the club are already looking to spend that money on replacements.

The Latest: Gakpo update

PSV journalist Elfrink shared an update regarding Leeds and Gakpo on Tuesday evening. He said on Twitter that ‘Gakpo is in talks with Leeds’, who will need to smash their transfer record to sign the winger.

Elfrink also added that ‘we know’ PSV want to keep Gakpo, but it looks as if they could be tempted by a big-money offer.

The Verdict: Speed required

It won’t be long until Leeds fly down under for their pre-season tour of Australia, and in an ideal world, replacements for Raphinha and Phillips would be on that trip.

However, Andrea Radrizzani and the 49ers group will need to pay over £30m for the 23-year-old if it's a record move for a player who contributed to 36 goals in 46 games last season.

Gakpo could be the ideal addition but is primarily a left-winger, so he could play on the left-hand side of a 4-2-2-2 system, with Brenden Aaronson on the right.
