Former Leeds United defender Danny Mills has tipped Junior Firpo to start against Liverpool this weekend.

The Lowdown: Leeds set for Liverpool test

The Whites have made a slightly disappointing start to the season, picking up just two points from their opening three Premier League games.

Marcelo Bielsa's men face Liverpool in a mouthwatering clash on Sunday afternoon, as they look to spring a surprise in front of a packed Elland Road.

The Latest: Firpo tipped to start

Speaking to Football Insider, Mills said it makes perfect sense for Firpo if start if he is fit, giving Leeds a better chance of dealing with Mohamed Salah and also providing more balance than Stuart Dallas at left-back.

So far, Firpo has started just two games for the Whites in all competitions.

"Yes, if he’s fully fit.

"It does add that balance down the left-hand side. It then frees up Dallas if you want to put him into midfield if you want a bit more energy in that area next to Kalvin Phillips.

"It just gives you an extra option to move things around and it gives you balance which you need. There’s nothing better than having a left-footed player on the left-side, especially in the long term.

"You can get away with Dallas at left-back for so long but against the better teams, and we’re talking about Mo Salah, you just get caught out positionally because you’re not used to playing that position.

"It doesn’t mean you’re a bad player, it doesn’t mean you’ve done anything particularly wrong, you’re just not experienced in that position and you’re playing against one of the best in the world. The probability is Mo Salah’s likely to get the better of you on a few occasions."

The Verdict: Correct decision

Playing Firpo would be the correct decision, with the former Barcelona ace a natural left-back who has a better chance of handling the world-class Salah.

Hailed as 'incredible' and 'fit, quick and strong' by La Liga expert Kevin Campbell, Firpo will need all of those traits to deal with the Egypt star.

Dallas can do a job anywhere, but Leeds can sometimes lack the natural attacking width with him at left-back, so their chances of victory would be enhanced with Firpo in the team.

The former Dominican international has to pick his moments to attack, but it is important that he has a positive mindset, making Salah worry about him, too.
