Leeds United have reportedly placed RB Salzburg forward Noah Okafor at the top of their January wish-list.

The Lowdown: Leeds interest

The Whites have recently been linked with a move for Okafor, who previously contributed to 17 goals in 44 games under Jesse Marsch in Austria. Reports have claimed that Leeds and AC Milan both want the Switzerland international after his fine start to the season.

Okafor, primarily a centre-forward who can also play on the wing, has contributed to ten goals in 15 games this season and is now valued at a career-high £16.2m by Transfermarkt.

The Latest: Salzburg insider

Salzburg insider Don Mitchell took to Twitter on Tuesday afternoon to make a claim on Okafor.

He said that Okafor moving to the UK in the winter is ‘very likely’, adding that the forward is ‘closely followed by Leeds’ and has been ‘told’ he is the Whites’ ‘top target’.

The Verdict: More realistic?

The Whites still want to sign Cody Gakpo, however, a move now looks unlikely according to David Ornstein, so Okafor appears to be a shrewd alternative and potentially a more realistic addition.

Mitchell said that Okafor has a ‘very similar profile’ to Gakpo, and like the PSV man, has also begun the campaign in fine form with three goals in four Champions League games.

Leeds may still need to battle Milan for the forward, but hopefully, the lure of the Premier League and a reunion with Marsch could tempt Okafor, making this link one to keep an eye on.
