Leeds United correspondent Phil Hay has relayed an Elland Road injury update involving young forward Sonny Perkins.

The Lowdown: First team involvement

Perkins arrived from West Ham over the summer and has been in fine form for the U21s, scoring eight times in 14 games.

Jesse Marsch admitted he was ‘really excited’ about bringing the 18-year-old to Thorp Arch and has included him in a number of first-team squads.

Perkins scored his first senior goal for the club against Cardiff City in the FA Cup last month and featured again in the fourth round vs Accrington Stanley.

The Latest: Hay’s post

Hay took to Twitter to relay updates from Marsch’s pre-Nottingham Forest press conference.

When it came to new injuries, the Leeds boss said that Perkins was also injured against Accrington alongside Rodrigo and won’t be available this weekend.

The Verdict: Joseph to get another chance?

It looks like Georginio Rutter and Patrick Bamford will battle it out to take over from Rodrigo in attack, however, when it comes to replacing Perkins on the bench, Mateo Joseph could be in line for a return.

The 19-year-old has featured in two Premier League squads this season, with his last coming against Tottenham back in November. He has scored 11 goals in as many Premier League 2 games during the current campaign, so Joseph may well travel to the City Ground with Leeds, potentially featuring in the 20-man squad.
