Leeds United are still in talks with Philadelphia Union over left-back Kai Wagner, according to Manuel Veth

Wagner, dubbed a 'fighter' by team-mate Aurelien Collin, has been linked with a move to Elland Road for a number of weeks now.

Jesse Marsch is thought to be personally driving a move for the German, with the Leeds head coach using centre-back Pascal Struijk at left-back for the opening three games in Junior Firpo’s absence.

Veth, who has been on top of the story regarding Leeds and Wagner, stated last week that the player’s camp appear to prefer a move to Elland Road over both Benfica and Dinamo Zagreb, and he has now shared the latest on a possible move.

The Latest: Veth’s update

Veth previously reported that there was ‘good communication’ between the two clubs for Wagner.

The journalist has now said in the last 48 hours that the Whites are still keen on the left-back with ‘talks ongoing’, however, Wagner now has interest from another club, this time in France.

The Verdict: Race against time…

It looks as if Victor Orta could be a busy man between now and September 1, with personal terms also thought to be agreed with forward Wilfried Gnonto.

A transfer fee still needs to be reached with FC Zurich in order to get a move over the line, and it appears as if there is still work to be done when it comes to a deal for Wagner too.

Jesse Marsch claims to be happy with Struijk and youngster Leo Hjelde as back up options to Firpo when he returns, but Orta could put his left-back and striker problems to bed all at once by signing Wagner alongside Gnonto over the next week.
