Sky Sports journalist Tim Thornton would be surprised if Southampton forward Che Adams joined Leeds United in the final days of the window.

Adams, labelled as ‘clever’ by Ally McCoist, has been linked with a move to Elland Road this summer.

The Whites were reportedly hoping to do business at £10m in a shock move for the Scotland international and even made an approach for the player.

However, rumours have cooled in recent weeks and Thornton has now given his thoughts on a potential transfer.

The Latest: Thornton’s comments

Talking to GiveMeSport, Thornton admitted that Leeds ‘like’ Adams, however, he said he’d be ‘surprised’ if a move went through.

“They like him, but from conversations that I’ve had, I don’t think he’s one that’s imminent for Leeds. I’d be surprised if he were to move to Leeds before the window closes.”

The Verdict: Ship sailed?

It looked at one point that there was a real possibility of Adams finally moving to Elland Road following initial interest back in 2020.

The forward was dropping down the pecking order at St Mary’s prior to the season getting underway, but he’s now netted four times in 187 minutes of football, making a real impact for Ralph Hasenhuttl's side.

He’s been the key man in the final third for the Saints, so you’d expect that it could be harder for Leeds to sign the forward with the clock ticking ahead of Thursday’s deadline.
