Jesse Marsch appears to be driving Leeds United's pursuit of Atlas attacker Julian Quinones.

The lowdown

The Daily Mail report that key figures at Elland Road are due to hold a meeting on Monday to discuss transfer targets as the start of the Premier League season looms.

One of the players said to be under consideration is Quinones, the 25-year-old who can play anywhere across the frontline.

Leeds have missed out on young Belgian target Charles de Ketelaere to Serie A champions AC Milan, and it seems that Marsch may have picked out the Colombian as an alternative.

The latest

Mexican newspaper El Sol de Durango reported (31 July, page 62, via MOT Leeds News) that Marsch has personally requested that Leeds complete a deal for Quinones.

With Ligue 1 outfit Strasbourg also circulating, the report stated that there could be 'bad news' for Atlas 'in the coming days', adding that it may be 'only a matter of time' before an official transfer bid arrives for the Colombian.

The verdict

The Quinones deal could actually prove to be a fairly straightforward one for Leeds to execute. That's because his price tag isn't particularly high - Foot Mercato journalist Sebastien Denis says that the 25-year-old available for just £4.2m.

On paper, that looks like a snip for the Whites, who have banked just over £97m from exits this summer and spent £97.8m themselves on six new players (via Transfermarkt).

However, the question is whether they should make the move for a player who hasn't proven himself in Europe.

Quinones did score 14 goals and provide nine assists last term, earning a place in the Liga MX Team of the Season as his team won the title, no doubt catching the eye across the Atlantic. Whether he could carry over that form to the English top flight is another matter.
