Leeds have been offered the chance to sign Julian Quinones from Atlas after losing out in the race for Charles de Ketelaere, according to The Daily Mail's Simon Jones

The lowdown

Atlas, based in Guadalajara, play in Liga MX, the top tier of Mexican football.

Quinones, 25, is predominantly a centre forward but he's also capable of playing on the flanks.

He's only just sealed a £2.34million move to Atlas at the end of a loan spell from Tigres, but it seems he could soon be on the move again.

French outlet Foot Mercato reported on Thursday that Jesse Marsch is an admirer of Quinones, who wants to move to Europe this summer.

Leeds' primary target was Club Brugge's Charles de Ketelaere, but he's due for a medical with AC Milan this weekend after a fee was agreed.

The latest

Leeds want to take up the offer of signing Quinones, who's now the focus of their attention.

The Whites intend to press on and fill the remaining gaps in their squad after the 'huge blow' of missing out on De Ketelaere.

The verdict

Is Quinones a good plan B?

Well, he scored 14 goals and provided nine assists in 42 appearances in all competitions in 2021/22, and earned himself a place in the team of the season.

It's difficult to know how those numbers would translate to the European game, though, so Leeds would be stepping into the unknown.

And another potential concern is discipline. Quinones reached double figures for yellow cards last season and even received a straight red card for an inappropriate gesture as he celebrated a late equaliser in a game against Chivas.
