Leeds United are monitoring RB Leipzig’s Tyler Adams as they eye a replacement for Kalvin Phillips, according to The Athletic.

The Whites have been linked with a move for Adams recently. Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg revealed earlier in the week that the USA international is ‘on the shortlist’ at Elland Road.

The 23-year-old, who has been described as ‘unbelievable’ by Ralf Rangnick and an ‘elite’ No.6 by reporter Andrew Stern, has worked under Jesse Marsch previously at New York Red Bulls and Leipzig.

The Bundesliga side are thought to be open to selling the defensive midfielder this summer, and Elland Road could be a destination following a big development with Phillips.

The Latest: Ornstein’s claim

David Ornstein of The Athletic shared a story on Friday evening regarding Phillips.

He revealed that Leeds and Manchester City have agreed on an initial £42m fee and added that ‘Adams is among the options they are monitoring’ as they eye a ‘proven’ replacement for Phillips.

The Verdict: Get the ball rolling…

Adams has been compared to both Phillips and Declan Rice by Football Transfers, who have his skill ranked at 4.25/5 and potential at 4.75/5.

He’s valued at £15.3m by Transfermarkt, so it could be wise for Leeds to get a transfer in motion by placing a formal bid in that region, looking to finalise a move as quickly as possible.

Marsch used Adams in many positions but mainly as a holding midfielder and will know just how to get the best out of his countryman, who may still improve on his already impressive game over the coming years, and a move could leave Leeds with money to spare from the Phillips deal to make further additions.
