Leeds United signed Brazilian winger Raphinha in the summer. He struggled for game time at first, but he is now a regular in Marcelo Bielsa’s starting XI. Former Scotland manager Alex McLeish has raved over the player following his recent performances.
What McLeish had to say about Raphinha
Speaking to Football Insider, McLeish said: “The goal was magnificent. I love to watch these type of players who have a real love of the ball and running with it and it is if the ball is glued to their boots. Ryan Giggs is one back in the day.
Raphinha has that left-foot wand and that’s always fascinated me. Guys with a left foot like Leo Messi, like Rivellino going way back.
Now you have guys like Raphinha come in and he’s only going to go one way and it’s onto his left and Sam [Allardyce] will be saying, ‘why do you let Raphinha come in on his left? He’s a left-footer, he’s going to go on his left and he’s going to hit it on his left, force him onto his right and he could stumble over the ball.”
Raphinha has had a good campaign
He has already put in some very decent performances for the club and pundit Noel Whelan was thoroughly impressed with his game against Aston Villa. He said: “A fantastic performance and Raphinha was on fire. From what we have seen of him so far, he looks a really good signing.”
The fact that McLeish is raving over the Brazilian, highlights how good he was against West Brom. He had 55 touches, picked up a 7.1 rating and chipped in with a goal (SofaScore). The winger also completed all five of his long balls.
The player is starting to prove his worth, and he is becoming integral to the side, which is very good news for all concerned, especially as Director of Football Victor Orta was hoping to sign the player for some time.
