Leeds United have had a solid start to the season, and part of this has been due to the great form of striker Patrick Bamford. However, Darren Bent still thinks the club need to strengthen up front in January.
What Bent had to say about Leeds
Speaking to Football Insider, Bent said: “You know what Bielsa’s like, he likes working with a small squad, he doesn’t like having a really, really big squad so I think Rodrigo’s the backup for him or maybe if they could get someone in on loan, that might be the best policy.”
Games like the loss to West Ham United highlight their issues as Leeds only managed to score from the penalty spot (SofaScore). They had 13 shots, and bringing summer signing Rodrigo into the starting line up did not add the attacking intent that Marcelo Bielsa clearly wanted. Without Bamford’s eight goals, the club would have only scored nine goals in the division this season. This highlights that it is key issue at the club which needs sorting sooner rather than later, hopefully providing some adequate cover for the striker in red-hot form.
Whether that comes from a potential January loan arrival, as Bent suggests is the ‘best policy’, time will tell, but Leeds are crying out for somebody to chip in and help Bamford out.
