Darren Bent has called Diego Llorente’s injury ‘disappointing’ news for Leeds United as Friday’s Premier League tie against Aston Villa draws closer.
The Spanish international arrived at Elland Road over the summer following a spell with Real Sociedad in La Liga.
Training with the Yorkshire club since his move, Llorente failed to make his debut for the Whites before the recent international break and it has now been confirmed that the defender will miss more time.
Appearing for Spain over the break, playing against Portugal, the former Real Madrid youngster was confirmed by La Roja’s official website to have suffered a muscle injury, a problem that was then assessed by Leeds.
What has Darren Bent said about the defender’s absence?
Likely to miss the games against Aston Villa, Leicester City and Crystal Palace, Llorente’s absence has been called ‘disappointing’ by Bent, who discusses various football matters via Football Insider.
“It’s what all managers fear,” Bent said. “It’s just unfortunate that he’s gone away with his international side and picked up this injury.
“That’s the risk you run when you’re an international player and you go away and play this amount of games.
QUIZ: Can you name these 10 signings under Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds?
“I’m sure a lot of managers would want their players to rest during the international break.
“You look at what it’s done for Jamie Vardy, he’s absolutely excelled now he has no international football.
“It is disappointing and unfortunately it is one of those things that all managers know is a possibility.
“For Leeds unfortunately it’s happened to them.”
Who will start against Aston Villa on Friday?
Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa will have a slight defensive headache come his team selection on Friday.
Liam Cooper is struggling with injury having missed the game against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday, whilst Pascal Struijk suffered an injury problem – though injury expert Ben Dinnery reports the 21 year-old will likely start in place of the also injured Kalvin Phillips.
