Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah was signed by Leeds United on loan whilst they were in the Championship. The forward has recently spoken about his time at Elland Road and his views will probably surprise a lot of the fan base.
Phil Hay tells Leeds fans how Nketiah felt about his loan spell
From an interview with The Athletic, journalist Phil Hay revealed some of the youngster’s comments on Twitter: “Nketiah reflects here on how he wanted to play more at Leeds but says he went back to Arsenal fitter than he’d ever been and was really pleased to cope in an environment so intense.”
Nketiah struggled under Marcelo Bielsa
The young Englishman was on loan during the 2019/20 season and featured 17 times in the Championship (Transfermarkt). He only managed three goals and one assist. What didn’t help him in the slightest was the fact that Bielsa clearly didn’t favour him. Nketiah only started twice in these 17 appearances and his exile eventually led to an early return to north London in January.
Therefore, for him to speak highly of his time at Elland Road highlights an excellent mentality from a player who clearly appreciates the learning experience.
Leaving after half a season on loan, one could certainly consider him a flop. Still, while Bielsa’s intense management usually receives praise when things go well, Nketiah’s revelation on his time at Elland Road proves that the enigmatic Whites boss is effective even in failure.
