Leeds United: Fans react as Bamford’s goal is disallowed by VAR

Leeds United: Fans react as Bamford's goal is disallowed by VAR - Leeds United

Many Leeds United fans are furious following a decision by VAR in their Premier League defeat to Crystal Palace on Saturday.

The South London side took the early lead in the 12th minute thanks to a Scott Dann header, which looked to be cancelled out in the 18th minute by Patrick Bamford, who slotted home a delightful chip after a clever through ball. However VAR decided that the goal was offside, with the striker using his hand to point where he wanted the pass.

Leeds tweeted the news the goal had been chalked off with a fitting question mark, and many fans of the club flooded to the tweet to express their anger at the decision.

The game ended 4-1, and Marcelo Bielsa will rightly be furious at the decision as the Eagles doubled the lead four minutes after Bamford’s goal was cancelled out. In the end, the Whites were far too open, which allowed the Eagles to counter-attack easily, and this is a lesson Bielsa will have to learn.

Bielsa has been full of praise for his striker recently, and after his great performance against Aston Villa, the manager said: “He scored some wonderful goals. Apart from that a noble player who sacrifices a lot for the team – generous also.”

Here is what Leeds fans said following the decision:
