Leeds have a big game against West Ham United tonight, and with both sides losing to ‘big six’ teams in their last fixtures, this match is a chance for them to turn things around.
Journalist Graham Smyth has been discussing the fixture and has discussed one key battle that he feels Leeds need to overcome to come away with three points.
What Smyth had to say about Leeds vs West Ham
Writing via the Yorkshire Evening Post, Smyth wrote about how crucial it is for Rodrigo to win the battle against Declan Rice. He wrote, “Leeds are likely to come up against a well organised, structured and stubborn defence tonight, which makes Rodrigo’s role all the more crucial. He has the ability to create chances for others and for himself and must get the better of defensive midfielder and Kalvin Phillips’ England team-mate Rice to give Leeds a chance of unlocking the door.”
This is a huge game for Rodrigo
The player is highly-rated by the media, with Noel Whelan saying: “We have got a real player on our hands here,” and also emphasising that he is a ‘dangerous‘ player for the club. According to The Times, Rodrigo earns £100,000 per week as salary at Leeds United.
With him fully fit and starting against West Ham, he should hopefully start to provide some more goals for the club. This should definitely come sooner rather than later as the 29 year-old, who has an abundance of experience in competitions like the Champions League, had scored 112 goals before arriving (Transfermarkt).
He has started three games and come off of the bench in six, so if he wants to prove to Bielsa that he should be starting more consistently, it is games like this one against the Hammers where he needs to show his quality.
The Spaniard only has one goal for the club so far, but he has a real good chance to improve that tally on Friday night.
In other news, Bielsa was loving one Leeds man in his press conference. Have a read who it was here!
