Leeds United have been heavily linked with Ryan Kent for some time, even having a £10m bid rejected last summer, via BBC. They have now once again been tipped for a deal, after former Rangers star Alan Hutton suggested Kent could move soon.
What Hutton had to say about Kent
Hutton told Football Insider: “You always want to kind of tie your main players down and he definitely is, even though he’s had a little dip in form, I still believe he’s one of the main threats for Rangers.
“You always wonder when a player has an agent change, what the reason is behind it – whether it be looking for a move or whatever but there’s been big offers for him.
“Rangers paid £7million which is massive money for Rangers, let’s not kid ourselves, Leeds had huge interest in him but it didn’t quite work out but again I always go back and say if the price is right, the player will go.
“If he’s playing well and there’s teams sniffing about, Rangers will have their own value on his head and if that’s met this month, then it’s going to happen.
“Rangers are the type of team, like most others, that they are always looking forward, they’re always looking at different options, who can they bring in, so they’ll be quite fluid with it, and they’ll just have to wait and see if an offer does happen.”
Should Leeds make another move for the winger?
Gets midfielder Scott Arfield praised his teammate Kent earlier in the season, saying: “The boy is on fire and his confidence is high. When he plays well he takes us to another level. It is a pleasure to play with him as he is making the right decisions at the right times.
“His pace is frightening and he is now adding goals to his games as well.”
This campaign, the 24 year-old has managed on average 2.4 shots, 2.2 key passes and 1.9 successful dribbles a game (WhoScored) – his creative threat is there for all to see. He has also picked up five goals and six assists in the Scottish Premiership, so the statistics certainly back up Arfield’s words that he is “on fire”.
Meanwhile, Leeds winger Helder Costa has struggled this season. The Portuguese attacker has only picked up one goal and two assists in England’s top flight (Transfermarkt).
Therefore, bringing in a player like Kent who is on much better form and whose confidence is clearly at a high level would be a great addition for Leeds. The winger will no doubt strengthen the squad depth in attack, as Marcelo Bielsa clearly thought when he tried to sign him last summer.
