This was rewarded with the Englishman being given a chance to shine in the Premier League with Leeds this season. He has recently been discussing his time at the club, and he had plenty to say about the gaffer.
Harrison discusses his time at Leeds so far
Speaking via the Yorkshire Evening Post, Harrison spoke about how key Bielsa is and how much he demands of the players. He said: “Over time we have kind of built a mutual understanding. I know what he wants from me and a player in my position. I’m able to do that on the pitch.
“I think the first thing is running – running as much as he wants his wingers to do, not only attacking but defensively as well. I’m willing to do everything I can on the pitch, which is to help the team out in whatever way I can.
“After that then it comes to the tactics, technique and what I’m capable of doing. I think all of those things combined and after working together for quite a while now, we have built this understanding.
“I’d like to think he feels the same way. I’ve just been so grateful to have had all the time on the pitch I have had. I know I have learnt a lot playing under him. Having a lot of game time has been key for my development.”
More praise for Bielsa
When on loan at Middlesbrough, the winger was deemed not good enough and only featured four times in the division (Transfermarkt).
However, Bielsa played him 83 times in the two Championship seasons following, using him as a crucial part of his set-up. Whilst playing in that division, author and big Leeds fan Peter Bleksley was full of praise for the youngster, saying: “You were an absolute credit to yourself, your profession and the club you represent.”
The comments highlight the great work ethic that the manager teaches his squad, and it has definitely worked wonders on the 24 year-old. In England’s top flight this campaign, Harrison has managed one goal and two assists. He has also managed on average 1.1 shots, 2.6 key passes, and 1.6 successful dribbles per game (WhoScored).
In other news, Bielsa was loving one Leeds man in his press conference. Have a read who it was here!
