Leeds United face West Bromwich Albion tomorrow, and it won’t be an easy game, despite Albion’s position in the Premier League table after they drew 1-1 to Liverpool on the weekend.
Kevin Phillips has highlighted that Marcelo Bielsa’s side could struggle due in one area that the Baggies will look to exploit.
What Phillips had to say about Leeds
Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “Leeds have not been good enough from set-pieces this season. Bielsa and his staff will be working on it because West Brom will definitely target Leeds on set pieces. Sam is big on his set plays, both defensive and offensively, so it is an area that West Brom will try to target.
I know what he will be saying to his players before the game – be clever with your fouls, go down when you can. As much as we don’t want it to happen, it will happen. Then they will try to punish Leeds in that area.”
Leeds need to be careful
Leeds have conceded the joint-most goals in the Premier League this season. Football Insider reported via Sky Sports Statto, that they have conceded nine goals from set-pieces this season. This is more than any other side in the top division.
Therefore, Leeds need to be very careful as they come up against an Allardyce side that will look to exploit them in this area. Their goal against Liverpool came from a clever set-piece, one that resulted in defender Sami Ajayi heading home to secure a point at Anfield.
However, Leeds should still be confident of getting a result as not only did they manage to win against Burnley, who play in a somewhat style to West Brom, but they also kept the clean sheet and this will be a huge boost to their confidence.
