Presenter and YouTuber Conor McGilligan has urged Jesse Marsch to start his ideal back four in Leeds United's next Premier League clash.

The Lowdown: Defence has to step up

Leeds are managing to score plenty of goals this season with the likes of Rodrigo, Crysencio Summerville and Wilfried Gnonto hitting form this campaign, but at the back, they are still very much a mess.

It's been yet another rollercoaster of a season, with the Whites taking points off the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool, but failing to win more winnable games against Southampton and Crystal Palace.

The Whites have conceded at least two goals in six of their last seven games across all competitions, with the only exception being a rare clean sheet away to Newcastle United - and that is something that'll have to change if they wish to avoid the drop.

The Latest: Marsch must fix defensive woes

McGilligan has admitted on his YouTube channel that he'd go with a defence of Pascal Struijk, Liam Cooper, Maximilian Wober and Rasmus Kristensen against Brentford, despite that meaning January recruit Wober - thought to be brought in as a left-back - in the heart of the defence, leaving Struijk in his uncomfortable left-back role.

He said: "I'd go Pascal at left-back - although, Firpo, he gives you a lot more going forward, doesn't he, but it's just if we are looking to outscore Brentford, which I think we will, so would you just put Firpo in there, anyway? He's better than Struijk going forward, isn't he?.

"It's tough. Nah, I've got to put Struijk in there. I'd probably go Struijk, Cooper, Wober and Kristensen, but that's three left-footers so it's not really a great balance, especially if we're getting pressed."

The Verdict: Struijk can't continue at left-back

Leeds clearly had an issue at left-back as Junior Firpo couldn't stay fit for the first half of the season and Struijk is a natural centre-back, so for them to have signed Wober and for McGilligan to prefer Struijk in a more unfamiliar position is very bizarre.

Wober had been captaining RB Salzburg this season from the left-back spot so he's clearly accomplished there, despite being able to perform in the heart of the defence, so Marsch surely has to get him in at left-back simply to fix the constant issue in that position.

For McGilligan to want a centre-back to start at left-back ahead of two players in the form of Wober and Firpo who are more competent there is pretty bold and would surely only make the game against Brentford more difficult.
