Leeds United are currently having to wait to see a starting appearance from summer signing Raphinha. He will no doubt have a big role to play in the future, and Marcelo Bielsa has recently discussed his plans for the player.
Bielsa’s plans for Raphinha
Speaking about the winger, Bielsa said: “Fundamentally he [Raphinha] plays on either wing. He is a player who is naturally very attacking, with ability to get in behind, with dribbling skills.
“They are virtues to attack and these are skills applicable out wide as well as in the centre. I won’t say that I won’t use him in any other position but fundamentally I see him as a player to play on either wing.
“He has played in the centre as a striker and attacking midfield but he arrived in our team to be an alternative or option on the wing.”
Will the Brazilian be vital for Leeds this campaign?
The 23-year-old’s numbers before arriving at Leeds highlight that he has a great eye for goal. The Brazilian has made 179 career appearances, scoring 44 times and picking up 26 assists.
The summer signing, who cost the club an initial £17m, is being given time to settle in and has made three appearances from the bench so far.
He has put in some decent performances, with pundit Noel Whelan being thoroughly impressed with his game against Aston Villa. He said: “A fantastic performance and Raphinha was on fire. From what we have seen of him so far, he looks a really good signing.”
Clearly these comments from Bielsa highlight that he rates the player highly and if definitely can be a crucial asset for the club this campaign. Whether that is from the bench to add more threat or as a starting player is still uncertain, but his career so far emphasises he can be a threat no matter how long he is on the pitch.
