Leeds United were 2-1 down and looking like they could possibly grab an equaliser against Leicester City last night. However, the Foxes ran away with the game and scored two more goals before the end of the match.
This substitution has raised some eyebrows and Marcelo Bielsa discussed his reasoning behind it.
What Bielsa had to say about substituting Hernandez
According to Phil Hay, Bielsa said he was right to replace Hernandez with Tyler Roberts.
The Spaniard showed his frustration of having to come off as he kicked a water bottle and Bielsa was also asked about this. He said: “If the reaction he had after my decision was to kick a bottle, what can I do?”
Was this substitution the right decision for Leeds?
In the 67 minutes he played, the attacking midfielder picked up a 6.9 rating (SofaScore). This was the joint second-best rating on the pitch out of the Leeds players. He was also very unlucky to not level the score a couple of minutes before coming off.
The 35-year-old found himself some space outside the box and produced a great curling shot which hit the crossbar.
This tactical tweak looks like it might have backfired for Bielsa but with it being his first season in the Premier League these mini-lessons could help even a manger as great as him get even better.
