Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa provided an injury update on forward Tyler Roberts following the loss to Tottenham Hotspur.
The latest on Roberts
It may have surprised many when the attacker was not in the matchday squad to face Spurs. Following the match, journalist for The Athletic, Phil Hay tweeted: “As for Roberts, (Bielsa) only said that he was ‘unavailable’. No more detail.”
Hopefully Roberts will not be injured for long
Roberts has only played 237 minutes of football this season, (Transfermarkt) so he has been barely-used by the manager and rarely seen by supporters.
However, Noel Whelan was full of praise for the player in the past, as he said: “Now you’ve got Tyler Roberts who I think has been looking fantastic in that position, he poses a different kind of threat, he has a little more pace about him, he is great with the ball at his feet and he defends more.”
Bielsa does not want to lose any players who can provide squad depth, no matter if they are struggling to create an impact.
Given that Leeds have a busy few weeks of FA Cup and Premier League ahead of them, the club will be hoping that the injury isn’t a long-term once. The very vague reply Bielsa gave may worry supporters, however, as the lack of detail did little to suggest that Roberts will return soon.
Hopefully when he does come back, the 21 year-old can start showing his quality and prove to the club that he can make it in this division.
