Former Leeds United man Michael Brown has credited sporting director Victor Orta for part of the club’s rise to the Premier League.
The rise of the Yorkshire club from the Championship to the Premier League after 16 years away from England’s top flight continues to impress, especially given that they have started so well this season.
Having arrived at Elland Road in May 2017, Orta has been much the transfer guru at Leeds, helping bring in a number of signings, including those that have arrived this summer.
With huge success off the pitch, spending just under £100m thus far in the transfer window, the Director of Football has seen Leeds have success on the pitch too, remaining unbeaten in their last four games since the opening day Premier League defeat to Liverpool.
What Brown has said about Victor Orta?
Speaking to Football Insider, the former midfielder said: “I think if you look at Victor, there were managerial changes, the recruitment side of it, trying to change the mentality and playing style.
“Sometimes you get close with certain squads and you think you’ve got it but it’s football and all of a sudden it just changes. You’re always trying to make it better.
“Some he’ll have got right, some he’ll have got wrong and there’s interest in him because of the growth.
“It’s a collective thing at Leeds United, Bielsa’s getting the credit but look all around the club with everybody, they’re all obviously on the same page.”
Who have Leeds signed this summer?
Following up promotion to the Premier League, the club opted to start their summer spending with permanent deals for Illan Meslier and Helder Costa, who had been on season long loans last term.
Defensive options Diego Llorente and Robin Koch then arrived and Leeds spent big on former Valencia striker Rodrigo Moreno.
Finally, to finish off such spending, Orta was key in a deal to bring in Brazilian attacker Raphinha on deadline day.
