Leeds United face Crystal Palace on Monday evening and Noel Whelan believes the club have a perfect opportunity to pick up the win as the South London side are missing their star player.
What Whelan had to say about the Premier League clash
Roy Hodgson confirmed that Wilfried Zaha will miss the game due to a hamstring injury. Speaking to Football Insider before the two sides face each other about this absence, Whelan said: “He’s a talisman for Crystal Palace, very much like when we played Leicester with Jamie Vardy.
“When they’ve got big players and big characters and big personalities missing like that, it does make a difference to their side and that should be an added boost and added confidence for the Leeds United players knowing that he’s not on the field.
“Jamie Vardy is Leicester’s go-to, Wilfried Zaha is exactly the same, he’s a go-to, he’s a game-changer, a match-winner. Without a player like that in the side, that’s got to be an added boost and boost in confidence for the players knowing they don’t have to deal with that kind of quality.”
Leeds should be confident following this news
There is no doubting the quality of the Ivorian. He’s arguably in the form of his life as he has managed nine goals and two assists in his 19 Premier League appearances this campaign.
His importance was highlighted in the two games he missed this season for Palace. The South London side lost to Burnley and Newcastle, failing to score a single goal.
Therefore his absence should give Leeds even more confidence that they can get the victory. There is a lot of things going their way, the match is at Elland Road and Palace have Zaha missing. This plus the fact that the winner of the match would go into the top ten should give Leeds the motivation to win the match.
