Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa is making a huge impact at the club and Paul Merson believes there is one thing that will make sure he stays at the Yorkshire side for the foreseeable future.

What Merson had to say about Bielsa

Speaking on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday, via MOT Leeds News, Paul Merson discussed the manager staying at the club as he said:  "Yeah, 100%, 100%. He gets paid good money, he’s watching a good football team and he’s got very enthusiastic young lads there who want to sit and listen and work in his way.

"You’ve got to have the players, and this ticks the box, I just think if he keeps on bringing a couple of players like Raphinha because wow, where did he get him from? If they do that I think he’ll stay, I think there’s a great project going on."

Raphinha is having a great season

Earlier this season, Phil Hay waxed lyrical about the Brazilian, tweeting out: ‘Raphinha btw. Seventeen million squids. Bargain.’ It is easy to see why he said this too – in his 21 appearances (three from the bench), the 24-year-old has picked up five goals and five assists (Transfermarkt), a fantastic return for a young player in a new league with a promoted team.

His underlying attacking stats show that he is unlucky not to have more goals too, as he has managed 1.8 shots, 1.5 key passes and 1.7 successful dribbles a game (WhoScored) – stats that rank him highly among his teammates (he’s second for shots and key passes and right at the top for dribbles).

You can easily see from these stats why pundits like Merson believes that such marquee signings will keep the Argentinian at the club and it is a very exciting time for supporters of Leeds as they look to battle for a top half finish.
