Leeds United suffered some worrying injuries during the big win against Leicester City on Sunday, and Phil Hay has provided an update on Patrick Bamford and Raphinha before the match against Everton.
Leeds injury update
The journalist from The Athletic provided the latest news on the duo from Marcelo Bielsa’s press conference. Hay tweeted: “Bamford/Raphinha less of a concern but didn’t confirm if they’ll be fit for Everton”
Huge blow if they are injured
Patrick Bamford has had a great campaign so far this season, scoring eleven Premier League goals in 20 appearances (Transfermarkt). He also picked up one goal and two assists on Sunday against Leicester, returning to form after a dry spell. Meanwhile, summer signing Raphinha has settled in perfectly and almost immediately become a solid starting eleven player for the club under Bielsa. The Brazilian has been on great form recently, scoring one and picking up two assists in his last two games (Transfermarkt).
The tweet from Hay is worrying even though he suspects the injuries are not long-term concerns, as Everton will be looking to bounce back after their defeat to Newcastle at the weekend. Carlo Ancelotti’s sides are always tough to break down, so playing them without two attacking starters would certainly hurt, if they cannot make the cut.
The stats emphasise that the two have been crucial attacking assets for Leeds and therefore if they are not fit for the Everton clash, Bielsa would lose a big chunk of the side’s attacking spark.
