Leeds United’s upcoming Premier League match against Southampton could yet be postponed due to their opponents needing to fit in a rearranged FA Cup fixture, and Phil Hay has dropped an update on the feeling at Elland Road around the fixture.
The latest update on Leeds
Writing for The Athletic, Phil Hay said: “Discussions are still at an early stage but The Athletic has been told that Leeds are open to the idea of postponing next week’s game.
“Contact was made with the club by the Premier League and the fact that Leeds seem willing to reschedule the fixture suggests that a new date is likely to be agreed.”
Major boost for Leeds?
It means they don’t have such a small period between matches and Marcelo Bielsa can fully focus on the Newcastle game. In a period where the club currently have five injuries, it is understandable to see why they are open to the idea of postponing the fixture.
Most of those injuries are in defence, where the Whites have struggled throughout the season, conceding nearly two goals per game, so an extended break to get the likes of Liam Cooper and Diego Llorente back in the team is potentially a huge boost.
In other news, Phil Hay discussed one Leeds player following a recent loss, find out who it is here!
