Leeds United picked up a solid 3-1 victory against high-flying Leicester City at the King Power Stadium and Phil Hay has reflected on the result.
Hay discusses Leeds
Tweeting after the match, the journalist for The Athletic said: “A fantastic win. Did in the second half what Leicester did at Elland Road in November – held tight under pressure and then showed a deadly touch when the chances materialised. Was going to say 15 points clear of the bottom three now but we might need to stop looking at that soon.”
Hay makes a big statement
It was a fantastic win, especially since the Foxes thrashed Leeds 4-1 earlier this season. It also means that Leeds have won their last two games, which is huge due to the fact that they had lost all three of their games prior to that in 2021.
The result puts them on 29 points, (SofaScore) only eleven away from the ‘magic’ 40 points that a lot of sides aim for, and Phil Hay makes a massive statement when he says Leeds might not need to be looking at the drop soon.
To be having this mindset just over halfway into the season is great from a Leeds perspective as they would have possibly been expecting to be a lot closer to the relegation zone in their first season back in England’s top flight.
It is also a big statement as it shows that he feels the club can start to look above them. Sixth place is now only four points away, so if the players and manager have the same mindset as Hay, then they could be making a surprising push for the European places this campaign.
