Leeds United picked up a well-deserved point against Arsenal at the weekend. With the Gunners reduced to ten men for most of the second half though, Marcelo Bielsa will be disappointed they didn’t take their chances to pick up all three points.
That said, there were definitely some positives, and Phil Hay believes one of them was summer signing Raphinha.
Hay delivers his verdict on Raphinha
The Journalist for The Athletic tweeted: ‘I went back over Raphinha’s full debut against Arsenal and analysed his first 90-minute outing. It was a performance full of flair, with good understanding between the Brazilian and Klich in particular. Leeds should be happy with what £17m bought them.’
The Brazilian looks to be a very good signing for Leeds
It is easy to see why Marcelo Bielsa wanted the attacker. The 23-year-old’s numbers before arriving at Leeds highlight that he has a great eye for goal. The Brazilian has made 179 career appearances, scoring 44 times and picking up 26 assists.
Director of Football Victor Orta can rest easy knowing he has secured a promising player for Bielsa to mould – the Spaniard has done some excellent business during his time at Elland Road.
Raphinha picked up a 7.0 rating from SofaScore and played the whole 90 minutes vs Arsenal. During the match, he completed both of his crosses, created one key pass, completed his only dribble attempt and hit the woodwork with a superb effort.
With such a performance, in which he was unlucky not to score, it is understandable to see why he is being praised. Clearly these comments from Hay highlight that he rates the player highly and he definitely can be a crucial asset for the club this campaign. Whether that is from the bench to add more threat or as a starting player is still uncertain, but his career so far emphasises he can be a threat no matter how long he is on the pitch.
