Leeds United defender Robin Koch had to be substituted in the early stages of last weekend’s against Chelsea due to injury. Phil Hay has now provided an update on the severity of the injury he suffered.
Hay’s injury update on Koch
Hay tweeted: Bad news for Leeds United – Robin Koch undergoing knee surgery in London today after limping off at Chelsea. Not thought to be serious but will still rule him out for the time being. Timescale for recovery due to be established after the operation.
This is a huge blow for Leeds
The German defender has been key in the back line for Leeds this campaign. He has featured in all ten Premier League matches and has been great at stopping opposition attacks. Koch has managed 1.8 tackles, 2.2 interceptions and 2.2 clearances per game (WhoScored).
This news will be quite a worry for the Marcelo Bielsa, especially with the player having to undergo surgery. This means he will be out for the foreseeable and his absence comes at the worst time.
The fixture list is heavily congested in the Christmas period and a perfect example of this is from December 16th-27th which sees the club play three fixtures in quick succession.
Koch’s injury is a big blow, and it will be interesting to see who Bielsa brings in to replace the injured defender.
