Phil Hay has given an update about Rodrigo’s absence from the Leeds squad after news emerged that he has to self-isolate.
Phil Hay’s update on Rodrigo
At first, it was thought that Rodrigo only had to isolate due to being in close contact with someone who had tested positive for COVID. However, it turns out that the forward has also tested positive.
Hay tweeted: ‘Positive Covid test means a 10-day self-isolation period as per Premier League guidance. He was due to miss Palace anyway. Should be available to play Arsenal at the end of the international break’
How big a blow will this be for Leeds
It will be worrying for the club that Rodrigo has now tested positive. Even though he might be back to face Arsenal, he might not feel fully match fit after a lay-off and perhaps he could feel any impact that the virus could have on him.
With Rodrigo and Raphinha both unavailable against Leicester, Leeds’ attacking substitutes were Tyler Roberts, who has only managed 24 goals in his career, and Ian Carlo Poveda, who only has ten senior appearances to his name.
When the club announced the arrival of Rodrigo, it felt like a marquee signing. The 29-year-old has eight goals for Spain in 25 appearances (Transfermarkt), has six trophies to his name, and he has scored 113 career goals in 388 appearances. This highlights how big a blow it is for Leeds and they have definitely lost some squad depth ahead of the big game against Palace.
