Leeds United: Phil Hay provides update on the injured Raphinha

Leeds United: Phil Hay provides update on the injured Raphinha - Leeds United News
Leeds had multiple absentees in their loss to Leicester on Monday. Phil Hay has now provided an update on winger Raphinha, who had an ankle injury ahead of the weekend clash with Crystal Palace.

Bielsa’s update on Leeds winger Raphinha

Marcelo Bielsa, speaking at his press conference in the build-up to the Palace game, was asked about the Brazilian. Hay quoted the Leeds manager as he said: ‘Raphinha has a chance but a decision will be made on him tomorrow.’

Hopefully the winger will be available for the fixture

The stats of the 23-year-old before arriving at Leeds highlight that he has a great eye for goal. The Brazilian has made 179 career appearances, scoring 44 times and picking up 26 assists. Therefore, the fact that he could be involved at the weekend is a great bit of news.

The summer signing, who cost the club an initial £17m, is being given time to settle in and has made two appearances from the bench so far.

He has put in some decent performances, with pundit Noel Whelan being thoroughly impressed with his game against Aston Villa. He said: “A fantastic performance and Raphinha was on fire. From what we have seen of him so far, he looks a really good signing.”

His creativeness highlights the need for him to return sooner rather than later. Despite only featuring twice, the winger could still have a huge impact for Bielsa this season, so the sooner he’s fit, the better.

In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay has discussed why Premier League survival is more important than ever. Have a read why here!
