Leeds United recalled Ryan Edmondson from Scottish side Aberdeen in order to loan him to Northampton and Kevin Phillips has been speaking about him following his debut for the League 2 side.
What Phillips had to say about Edmondson
Speaking about Edmonson and how much a loan move will help his development, Philips said: “It has been a tough six months with all the moving around but this will be really good for his development. Living up in Scotland and now down in Northampton, he is getting valuable experience both on and off the field.
“He is not going to break into this Leeds side, so I think it is great for the lad.
“He will come back to Leeds in the summer, hopefully with a good year of football under his belt and come next season he could be a regular feature of the first team. He could be a big asset for Leeds.”
Edmondson needs to have a good spell on loan
The 19-year-old is at a crucial stage of his career, where he needs to use these loan experiences to prove that he could perform in the near future at Leeds. In the Scottish Premiership this season, he played 14 times and picked up two goals and two assists (Transfermarkt).
His two goals came in the same match, and Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes was full of praise for the forward following this game as he said: ‘Very pleased, (his) first-half performance, in particular, was terrific’.
Edmondson has probably not shown enough to make Marcelo Bielsa think about giving him a chance in the first team currently, so a temporary move to Northampton is where he needs to show his quality.
This development is definitely ‘great’ for the forward like Phillips said. Here he can mature and get used to the physical senior football in England and it will be great for his development.
