Leeds: Journalist slams Georginio Rutter for Under-21s display

Leeds Live reporter Will Jackson ripped into Georginio Rutter after his shocking display for Leeds United’s Under-21 side.
The Lowdown: Rutter taking time to adapt
Rutter was seen as the marquee signing over the summer as Leeds splashed out a club-record fee on the French attacker, which was said to be around £35.5m.
While that will have been exciting for Leeds fans at the time, he’d only played 64 first-team games in Germany before the Whites spent a crazy amount of money on the youngster.
It could therefore take time for him to settle into Leeds’ style of play and the Premier League, as he’s still yet to find the back of the net in any of his five appearances – and seemingly even found under-21 football difficult on Monday night.
The Latest: Rutter struggling to find his feet
The French youngster was handed a start against Aston Villa’s Under-21s and failed to impress, as he was hooked off at half-time – and Jackson didn’t hold back in his player ratings, handing him a 5/10 for his display.
He said: “Missed with an early sighter and struggled to find his way into the game at times. Replaced at half-time with 45 valuable minutes under his belt.”
The Verdict: A huge couple of month
The fact that a £35.5m striker failed to impose himself at youth level will be a serious cause for concern, as it doesn’t show him or the recruitment team in a positive light if he isn’t even up to that level.
Rutter has indeed only started one game thus far so it’s difficult to judge him, but he will need to find his feet sooner rather than later given Leeds’ worrying position in the bottom three, and his recent displays don’t show any signs of that being the case, with journalist Jake Winderman claiming he’s looked ‘a step too slow‘.
Leeds failed to even register a shot on target against their relegation rivals Everton at the weekend, and Rutter only touched the ball five times as he was afforded just 13 minutes by Michael Skubala, which is something that must be addressed and improved as soon as possible.
