Former England international Steve Howey believes that Leeds United should look to re-sign Eddie Nketiah from Arsenal in this January transfer window.
What Howey had to say about Nketiah
Speaking to Football Fancast, Howey said: “It’s clear he’s not really in the team (at Arsenal). (Bukayo) Saka seems to be the man who’s kind of getting everybody’s attention at the moment. Nketiah certainly, was one that was, but it’s an opportunity for him to go there.
“We all know how exciting Leeds are under (Marcelo) Bielsa. What a force they are going forward, they’ve shocked everybody. I’ve watched them a couple of times this season and I’ve absolutely loved watching them.
“Again, for Nketiah, from now until the end of the season, and he’s been there before and knows what it’s about, absolutely. Why not?”
Should Leeds look to sign Nketiah?
The young Englishman was brought in by Victor Orta in the 2019/20 season, a campaign in which Leeds were promoted to the Championship (Transfermarkt). However, he failed to set Elland Road alight as he scored just five goals in 19 appearances.
He was only at the club for half a season as he returned to the Gunners in January due to Bielsa not selecting the forward as much towards the end of his loan spell.
He has been involved in the squad at Arsenal this season, playing 12 times in the Premier League, however, he has only picked up one goal (Transfermarkt). However, Nketiah has impressed for the England U21s and recently became the record scorer for the youth side when he netted for the 14th time in 12 games.
Baring in mind Bielsa stopped picking him when he was at the club, it is hard to see Nketiah getting much game time ahead of the prolific Patrick Bamford or record signing Rodrigo, and as such, this signing might not be worthwhile.
