Leeds United will look to further enhance their automatic promotion credentials on Tuesday evening as they face off against Luton Town.
A superb 3-0 win over Fulham at the weekend saw Marcelo Bielsa’s side bounce back after losing their first Championship game following the restart to Cardiff.
In beating Scott Parker’s side, the Whites returned to the top of England’s second tier and moved themselves closer to automatic promotion to the Premier League.
A victory against struggling Luton on Tuesday evening at Elland Road would see Leeds go six points clear of second placed West Bromwich Albion and 11 clear of third-placed Brentford.
Luton arrive in Yorkshire having secured a surprise 1-0 win over Swansea City last weekend which kept their five-game unbeaten streak in tact.
Sitting 23rd in the Championship table, a win against Leeds would see them move level on points with the likes of Huddersfield and Hull City in what is shaping up to be a lively relegation battle.
Looking ahead to Tuesday night’s game, we here at Transfer Tavern have attempted to predict the outcome of the game.
Luton Town have shown that they can be a real handful by beating promotion-chasing Swansea City on their own turf, with James Collins netting yet another goal. On the other hand, Leeds United made a real statement by beating Fulham rather convincingly 3-0, and it is perhaps safe to say that most bookies would have this as a home banker given their league positions. Luton arguably need the points more, but they have conceded the most goals in the division, and I just cannot see them keeping this Leeds side out. I think it might be another comfortable night for the Whites. 3-0.
Leeds returned to winning ways against Fulham at the weekend and looked back to their normal selves after a disappointing defeat against Cardiff. The introduction of Pablo Hernandez at half-time re-invigorated the side and if he starts this one, it could be a tough evening for Luton. The Hatters have done well since the restart, drawing against Preston before picking up a 1-0 win against Swansea last time out. Four points from six here is an impressive feat, given both sides are pushing for the play-offs. But Leeds are a cut above and the league leaders will be desperate for three more points which would put them ever nearer to automatic promotion. Luton will put up a fight, but the difference in quality should tell. 3-1.
Leeds have bounced back in superb style after that defeat to Brentford and they are obvious favourites to go on and win this game but you can expect Luton to provide a tough opponent for Marcelo Bielsa’s side as the look to keep their second-flight status in tact. 1-0.
Leeds have extended their position at the top of the table and will want to put as much daylight between them and West Brom in order to clinch the title. Sadly for relegation-battling Luton, they will likely be the victims of a Bielsa masterclass. Although the Hatters haven’t lost any of their last five fixtures, a trip to Elland Road looks like it’ll only go one way. 2-0.
