Leeds: Whites eyeing Viktor Gyokeres -Leeds United News

Leeds United ‘have half an eye’ on Coventry City striker Viktor Gyokeres, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Lowdown: Gyokeres profiled

Gyokeres is primarily a centre-forward who can also play on the wing and joined Coventry on a permanent basis from Brighton last year.

The Sweden international has scored 55 senior goals for club and country during his career, 22 of which have come for his current employers.

The 24-year-old is valued at a career-high £4.5m by Transfermarkt and has been labelled as a powerful player by Coventry manager Mark Robins.

The Latest: Leeds links

Jones was talking to GiveMeSport regarding Leeds’ search for a striker and name-checked Gyokeres as a potential late new target.

“They have half an eye on Gyokeres at Coventry, and I’ve still got a feeling that if they were to go down that route, they might end up turning to him instead (of Brereton Diaz).”

The Verdict: Premier League ready?

Leeds are in need of a new forward before this evening’s deadline, especially following Rodrigo’s suspected dislocated shoulder injury on Tuesday evening.

Will Leeds sign a forward in the final days of the window?

Gyokeres could well be a gamble by Leeds chiefs, despite coming off his best season in front of goal last season. He netted 18 goals for Coventry last season, however, he has no top-flight experience in England and still seems to be finding his feet in the second tier with just four goals during the 2020/21 campaign.

Leeds officials may well view Gyokeres as a cheaper alternative to someone like Hwang Hee-chan, though, so it could be one to keep an eye on.
