Journalist Ben Jacobs has insisted on The Done Deal Show that Leeds United are still far off Weston McKennie's price tag.

The Lowdown: Leeds keen for additions

It has been reported by Fabrizio Romano that Leeds and Mckennie have already agreed on personal terms, while the two clubs agreeing on a transfer fee is proving to be the stumbling block at present.

Jacobs has claimed that Leeds are still some way short of the minimum that Juventus will accept for McKennie, who's been playing regularly for the Old Lady in all competitions this season, racking up 21 appearances.

However, they may need to act quickly given that Premier League leaders Arsenal are now also said to be interested in the United States international, which could cause uncertainty in negotiations.

The Latest: McKennie deal still possible

While McKennie would be a good signing for Leeds on paper given his age and experience at the top level, Jacobs has insisted that they must up their offer soon to have a chance of landing the midfielder.

He said: "Contrary to a lot of reports out there, I am told pretty consistently that we have a €30m-plus fee that Juventus want as a minimum that might even extend to €35m, and as a consequence, the €20-25m package that has been discussed is a low estimate that Juventus will not accept - and nothing to do with their capital gains violations, and the points deductions and future punishments are going to change that.

"So Leeds' offer was in the mid-20s, maybe even creeping up to the high-20s in terms of euros, and they need to go a little bit further in order to get a deal done. And they need to move quickly, because it's not impossible that Arsenal move, because they do need to strengthen that midfield."

The Verdict: Orta must deliver McKennie

If Leeds were to land someone of McKennie's pedigree in club football, as well as the international stage after he starred at the World Cup, it would be huge for the Whites in their battle against the drop.

He's still only 24 years old, and if Leeds replaced Mateusz Klich with someone such as McKennie, who will already know several compatriots at Elland Road, it could be seen as a very smart piece of business, although ensuring that the right price is met and not going to impact them financially down the line is even more crucial.

Given that McKennie was playing in the Champions League earlier this season and has been linked with clubs such as Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal in recent times, it would be interesting to see him end up at a relegation-threatened side in Leeds, although fans should be excited as he's seen as an 'intriguing' signing that would be 'ideal for the way they play', according to journalist Dan Bardell.
