Leeds United director of football Victor Orta has spoken to Chelsea over their sporting director vacancy, according to 90min.

The Lowdown: Orta rumours

Orta was first linked with a move to Stamford Bridge last month, with Chelsea holding internal discussions regarding the Spaniard.

Reports since suggested he could be spoken to over the position alongside Lee Congerton at Atalanta and Sevilla's Monchi. Jesse Marsch spoke openly on the speculation prior to the clash with Aston Villa earlier this month, and it looks as if Orta has now been in contact with the Blues.

The Latest: Chelsea contact

90min reporters Graeme Bailey and Tom Gott provided an update on Chelsea’s search for a sporting director on Monday.

They revealed that the Blues have held a fresh round of talks with former Liverpool chief Michael Edwards, adding that they have also spoken to a list of six others that includes Orta.

The Verdict: Fingers crossed

It looks as if Chelsea’s attempts to bring Edwards to London will prove unsuccessful, so they may fall back on the six other candidates that they have spoken to.

Orta appears to be among the likes of Paul Mitchell, Monchi, Tim Steidten, Lee Congerton and Luis Campos, and hopefully the Leeds chief will feel he still has plenty left to offer at Elland Road despite being at the club for five years.
