Leeds United 'remain interested' in signing Philadelphia Union left-back Kai Wagner, according to Transfermarkt journalist Manuel Veth. 

The lowdown: Career so far

Somewhat of a journeyman across Germany prior to arriving in America, Wagner has directly contributed to 21 goals in 114 outings across all competitions for Philadelphia.

The 25-year-old left-back has enjoyed a fruitful time in the MLS and was part of the side that lifted the Supporters Shield in 2019/20.

Now in the final four months of his contract, Leeds are seemingly still eyeing up a move for Wagner after links earlier this summer...

The latest: Leeds 'interested'

Taking to Twitter, Veth claimed that the Whites 'remain interested' in signing the uncapped German this summer.

He stated: “Source! Leeds United remain interested in Philadelphia Union left-back Kai Wagner. But the Premier League club are not the only one interested. Benfica and Dinamo Zagreb have also shown interest. This is a decisive summer for the 25-year-old German.”

The verdict: Left-back crisis

In the opening day victory over Wolves, Jesse Marsch was forced to utilise Pascal Struijk as a makeshift left-back with Stuart Dallas and Junior Firpo both sidelined through injury.

Therefore, making an addition in the area, particularly one that would come as a budget solution such as the £2.7million valued ace, would be deemed a wise move before the September 1 deadline.

Albeit unproven at anything like the level of the Premier League, during the 2022 campaign, Wagner has earned a highly impressive 7.42 Sofascore rating, winning 3.6 duels, making 1.8 interceptions and 2.0 clearances on average per outing, all whilst helping to keep ten clean sheets.

That form, combined with Marsch's knowledge of the American top flight, make the man described as ‘one of the best left-backs’ in the MLS a worthwhile target if Victor Orta can make an Elland Road arrival happen.
